<title>Inovação aberta para solucionar problemas públicos: oportunidades e desafios</title>
<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13995</link>
<description>Inovação aberta para solucionar problemas públicos: oportunidades e desafios
Ganem, Bruna Ribeiro
This research investigates ways to enable open innovation among public institutions,&#13;
startups, and companies, focusing on solving public problems through innovation&#13;
procurement instruments. The objective of this study is to propose a problem mapping&#13;
framework and a CPSI Best Practices Guide that enable the solution of public problems&#13;
through open innovation, based on public procurement of innovation. The study&#13;
assumes that it is necessary to reverse the logic of the traditional bidding process,&#13;
shifting the focus from the specification of the solution to the identification of the public&#13;
problem. The adopted methodology was qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive. The&#13;
methodological path combined a literature review with documentary analysis of public&#13;
calls and contracts for Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions (CPSI) carried out&#13;
in Brazil, and the qualitative data analysis was conducted using NVivo software. The&#13;
analyzed calls were based on Complementary Law No. 182/2021 (Legal Framework&#13;
for Startups and Innovative Entrepreneurship) and covered different levels of&#13;
government. The results indicate that adopting open innovation practices in the public&#13;
sector requires not only cultural and institutional changes but also technical knowledge&#13;
for the correct application of the available instruments. The main applied contribution&#13;
of this thesis lies in the proposal of a practical and structured framework to assist public&#13;
managers in mapping problems and defining recommended actions for their solution.&#13;
The originality of this study resides in the construction and validation of this framework,&#13;
which underwent a preliminary (pilot) empirical validation. Furthermore, the research&#13;
presents a Good Practices Guide that guides public managers in structuring open&#13;
innovation processes through Public Procurement of Innovative Solutions (CPSI),&#13;
validated by experts in the field.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13993</link>
This study examined leaders’ self-perceptions and followers’ other-perceptions of Authentic Leadership (AL)behaviors in a Brazilian cooperative financial institution, a topic of growing relevance given the expansion and socioeconomic impact of cooperativism in the country. A mixed-methods design was adopted: a quantitative phase applying the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) with a sample of 162 participants (57 leaders; 105 followers) across different levels of the leadership pipeline, and a qualitative phase with individual interviews of four senior executives. Results indicated no significant difference in the ALQ total score between leaders and followers (Mann–Whitney U test, p = 0.406), with similar medians (leaders = 3.06; followers = 3.00). In multivariate analysis, education level predicted the overall ALQ score, suggesting more critical assessments of authenticity among more highly educated respondents; sex did not remain a significant predictor in the final model. In the qualitative phase, facilitators (coherence between discourse and practice; inspiration and ethical consistency) and barriers (limited time for high-quality conversations; politicized contexts; need for psychological safety) emerged. Integrating these findings supports the adequacy of the ALQ for the studied context and informs a development roadmap combining diagnosis (ALQ), guided debriefing, and management artifacts (forums for voice, information openness, decision rituals, and explicit justification of decisions). In sum, the study recommends strengthening participation structures, voice, and transparency, and instituting periodic monitoring via the ALQ to sustain authenticity in everyday routines and its effects on people and organizational decision-making.

Silva, Adenilson Lima e
Telemedicine can be an alternative for improving access to Primary Health Care (PHC) services within the context of Brazil's Unified Health System (UHS). In this context, the general objective of this research was to propose guidelines to enhance the use of telemedicine as an alternative for improving access to PHC within the SUS. To this end, a qualitative, exploratory study was conducted, operationalized by means ten in-depth individual interviews, using a semi-structured approach and a Basic Question Guide, with professionals working in the investigated context. Content analysis was used for data analysis, with pre-defined categories of analysis. Despite the recognized benefits to PHC users in public health, it was evident that telemedicine faces budgetary, structural, cultural, political, and social challenges for its definitive and comprehensive integration within the SUS in Brazil. Among some of the proposed directions, it is possible to mention the need for expanding connectivity, training professionals and integrating telemedicine into healthcare planning, expanding the national telemedicine network, investing in technological infrastructure, training professionals, establishing clear guidelines, integrating with health systems and public-private partnerships, and structuring telecare rooms, ensuring adequate connectivity and infrastructure, among others.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13974</link>
Diverio, Tamara Silvana Menuzzi
This study reassesses the impact of Mercosur on trade flows by combining established methods from the traditional gravity literature with recent Difference-in-Differences techniques that are robust to heterogeneity. The differential of the analysis lies in separating trade flows into specific categories: liberalized trade and non-liberalized trade. This distinction is important because Mercosur's trade policy is not uniform, since some products had their intra-bloc tariffs completely eliminated while others remained protected by tariff barriers. The general objective of the research is to analyze the impact of Mercosur's creation on trade flows considering the sectoral policies applied. The methodology combines approaches such as: the application of difference-in-differences robust to heterogeneity according to Nagengast, Rios-Avila, and Yotov (2024), sectoral analysis that differentiates liberalized from non-liberalized trade, simultaneous control of three fixed effects using the Poisson Pseudo Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimator, and the inclusion of bloc expansions. The results show that Mercosur had a positive and significant impact on trade among its members in the analyses conducted, and non-liberalized trade showed the largest gains. This behavior suggests the presence of intra-bloc protection and trade externalities induced by regional integration itself. The research contributes to the literature by demonstrating that, although Mercosur has stimulated trade, selective protection compromises the bloc's economic efficiency and limits its potential for deeper integration, highlighting the need to rethink trade policies to promote more uniform liberalization and greater economic cohesion among member countries.

This thesis analyzes the effects of mergers and acquisitions on the private higher education market in Brazil, focusing on the implications for the competitiveness of community and faith-based institutions. Using a theoretical and empirical approach, it investigates how large educational groups, through expansion strategies and economies of scale, have shaped a scenario of market concentration, particularly driven by Distance Education (DE). The study reveals that, although these transactions expand access to higher education, they also generate competitive asymmetries and threaten the sustainability of faith-based and community-based institutions that are more committed to research, outreach, and regional development. The research proposes that a regulatory framework for DE and differentiated public policies are essential to preserving institutional diversity and ensuring a more balanced competitive environment.

This study aims to analyze the effect of the aggressive taxation of Brazilian companies&#13;
listed on the B3 stock exchange on investments, performance, and earnings&#13;
management from 2010 to 2024. The deductive method was adopted, classifying the&#13;
research as applied in nature, explanatory in objectives, documentary in procedures,&#13;
and quantitative in approach to the problem. The population consists of companies&#13;
listed on the B3, resulting in a sample of 293 companies from 2010 to 2024, totaling&#13;
2,713 observations. Data collection was carried out using the Economática® database,&#13;
with the data initially processed in Excel spreadsheets using the variables of the&#13;
econometric models. The data were then entered into the RStudio software to run the&#13;
model equations and subsequently analyzed using the Hausman test for the general&#13;
data and the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method for economic sectors and&#13;
governance levels. The analysis by economic sector revealed that some sectors&#13;
showed significance in explaining tax aggressiveness, and governance levels also&#13;
revealed significant effects. It is concluded that the models explain the relationship with&#13;
profitability, operating margin, and market value, but do not explain deferred taxes.&#13;
Among the economic sectors, Information Technology, Cyclical Consumption, and&#13;
Public Utilities stood out, showing consistent negative impacts on performance and&#13;
return indicators; while, among the governance levels, Level 3, Bovespa Mais, and the&#13;
Traditional level stood out, showing distinct effects on performance and deferred taxes.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13939</link>
Nascimento, Anderson Quevedo do
This thesis investigates the relevance of credit securitization as a liquidity management instrument in the Brazilian banking system between 2013 and 2023. The topic is justified by the importance of liquidity for financial sistem and by the lack of national studies addressing the role of securitization in this context. While international literature highlights its contribution to liquidity, funding, regulatory capital, and risk sharing, its adoption in Brazil remains incipient and highly concentrated among a few issuers. The objective is to assess whether securitization exerts a significant effect on the liquidity of multiple banks operating in Brazil, distinguishing between large institutions (S1 and S2) and smaller banks (S3 to S5). To this end, an original database was constructed using data from the Central Bank of Brazil, CVM, and Anbima, covering FIDCs, CRAs, CRIs, and debentures backed by bank loans. A panel data model with fixed effects and robust standard errors was employed, including lagged securitization variables to mitigate endogeneity.&#13;
The empirical results do not confirm that bank liquidity is significantly affected by securitization. Three structural factors help explain this absence of effect: (i) the low volume and frequency of issuances (419 operations over 11 years), (ii) high concentration in six banks (around 62% of the total), and (iii) residual balance sheet exposure (0.53% of total credit portfolio). The intensive use of repo operations backed by government securities-often exceeding 15% of GDP-also reduces the incentive for securitization. It is concluded that structural factors such as banking concentration, transaction costs, and the predominance of public debt financing limit securitization’s role as a liquidity instrument. This research contributes by filling a gap in the Brazilian literature and offering insights for public policy and long-term funding strategies.

The perspective of Dynamic Capabilities (DCs) is a prominent theoretical lens in the field of strategic management, given that its focus lies in driving firms toward superior performance. In this discussion scenario, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are observed as a broad and necessary field for the use of the microfoundations of sensing, seizing, and reconfiguring, since they play a vital role in the global economy by fostering innovation and economic growth while, at the same time, facing restrictions in their operational and financial resources. When inserted in highly regulated sectors, the limitations of SMEs tend to intensify due to the need for compliance with specific standards and legislation, requiring continuous investments that considerably impact firms. The healthcare sector, particularly clinical laboratories, faces an environment characterized by high regulatory complexity and growing demand for quality, safety, and efficiency.This study aims to investigate the contribution of DCs to the performance of SMEs operating in highly regulated sectors, taking into account the constant evolution of the business environment and the requirements of adaptation to technological changes and strict regulations. Through qualitative research, using a multiple case study approach, the study sought to deepen the findings of the microfoundations that led to performance in laboratories by operationalizing the final categories identified. The results show that regulation, often perceived as an obstacle, is reinterpreted by the laboratories investigated as a strategic lever. Sensing presented the greatest contribution of the study, since from the perception of opportunities by managers, strategies could be designed, and resources reconfigured in the pursuit of performance in an agile and assertive way, favoring organizational longevity. Seizing and reconfiguring, although contributing to performance, are intertwined, making it difficult to identify when the laboratory designs the strategy and when it orchestrates, acquires, measures, or combines resources to implement it, which suggests the absence of specialized departments in SMEs.Therefore, the potential of this study revolves around the responsiveness that SMEs demonstrate through the use of DCs, bringing legitimacy to the role of accreditation and regulatory bodies in the sustainable development of firms through quality. This research has the capacity to share scientific knowledge both with the management sciences and with the health sciences literature, by means of the scientific evidence generated, since the final categories of the microfoundations can provide important tools for operationalization in contemporary laboratory management.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13933</link>
Girardi, Gabriele
Markets are currently being organized in an increasingly complex way, moving towards Platform Business Models in ecosystemic and digital formats. Digital Transformation (DT), driven by emerging innovations, is changing the dynamics, strategies, competitiveness, positioning, relationships and, above all, the Value Proposition (VP) of organizations. The most successful companies in the world are Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems, which makes it a contemporary phenomenon of growing interest, which presents gaps that are not yet understood, primarily related to VP. In addition, few studies have focused on Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems in developing countries and in the agribusiness sector. This thesis explores the complex dynamics of Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems in the context of TD, with the aim of analyzing how the process of creating, sharing and capturing value occurs in a financial sector Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems applied to agribusiness in an emerging market. To achieve this goal, a qualitative, deductive, exploratory, single-case study was carried out, analyzing an AgFintech, called “AgroFinX” in this study. Primary and secondary data were collected and analyzed using the content analysis technique. The main results identified that there are different levels of value co-creation, according to each complementor, with some actors co-creating more than others. Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems are future trends, with each organization seeking to create its own Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems for different audiences. Companies are participating in multiple ecosystems, in a coopetition format. Big players are partnering with smaller players in the quest for competitiveness and continuous value delivery. Regulations such as the LGPD and Banking Secrecy Act affect these MLs, influencing their VP and strategies. Business Models of Digital Platform Ecosystems are affected by external and contextual factors such as political, economic, climatic, geographical, infrastructural, socio-cultural and digital. In the agribusiness sector there are inherent barriers to the activity, which is complex and multifaceted and requires differentiated solutions.

Rizzi, Vanessa Nunes
The current organizational environment is characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA). Within this context, entrepreneurship remains a key driver of innovation and value creation. However, in large organizations composed of multiple collaborators, entrepreneurial actions are carried out through intrapreneurship, where individuals operate using internal resources under limited autonomy, shared risks, and governance structures that directly influence decision-making. Investigating how intrapreneurs make decisions under uncertainty is essential to understanding the actual mechanisms of organizational innovation and to developing effective approaches for building corporate innovation capacity. This study investigated how these leaders manage to balance dynamically the two logics Causation and Effectuation in uncertain environments. A qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive approach was adopted, using in-depth semi-structured interviews and behavioural profile validation through the Enneagram with seven intrapreneurs from diverse business sectors. The findings reveal that the decision-making process unfolds in three main phases: (1) ideation/dissatisfaction, (2) analysis/search for security, and (3) execution/adaptation. The dynamic balance between logics occurs in an ambidextrous and situational manner and is influenced by individual characteristics such as cognitive style, perception of uncertainty, risk tolerance, and result orientation, as well as support networks and resource availability. The study also revealed that cognitive aspects are shaped by a rooted motivational base, formed by deep desires, fears, and beliefs, whose influence is moderated by each intrapreneur’s level of consciousness. A practical tool called the Strategic Intentionality Flow was developed, integrating cognitive (mental map), emotional (inner compass), and practical (journey into action) dimensions. Additionally, six practical decision-making guidelines were proposed to support strategic choices under uncertainty, providing a structured way to operationalize the dynamic balance between Causation and Effectuation logics in the intrapreneurial context.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13926</link>
Pereira, Muriel Garrido
This study aims to propose a framework for orchestrating innovation networks of the application/commercialization type in the Brazilian context. The research departs from the observation that, despite theoretical advancements, there is still no consensus on the dimensions, processes, and activities that should guide the orchestration of innovation networks. A qualitative exploratory approach was adopted, based on the Design Science Research (DSR) method, which enabled the iterative construction and validation of the artifact. The development of the framework occurred in four stages. First, a literature review was conducted, from which the initial framework (F0) was derived. Subsequently, three validation rounds were carried out with different groups of actors: academics, professionals engaged in innovation projects, and representatives of hubs. Each round provided insights that led to refinements, culminating in the final version (F3) of the framework. The findings indicate that the orchestration of innovation networks requires the consideration of multiple interdependent dimensions, ranging from actor mobilization to relationship management, including agenda alignment, knowledge flows, stabilization, governance, and administrative coordination. The analysis also highlights the relevance of conflict resolution processes, co-creation practices, and continuous alignment of objectives to ensure value creation for network members. From a practical standpoint, the framework offers managers and entrepreneurs a structured and adaptable model for application/commercialization networks in Brazil. From a theoretical perspective, the research advances the field by integrating different strands of literature and presenting an empirically validated model. Limitations are related to the focus on only one type of network and on the Brazilian context. Future studies are encouraged to expand the analysis to other types of networks and international settings.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13925</link>
The general objective of this research was to propose alternatives to stimulate an increase in the volume of financial transactions by members of a Segmented Credit Cooperative. The specific objectives were to analyze the portfolio of services provided by the Cooperative to its members; to identify the reasons why members remain members of the Cooperative; and to analyze the factors that hinder a greater volume of financial transactions by members with the Cooperative. Credit unions play a crucial role in the global economy, often responsible for the social and economic-financial inclusion of an entire community by establishing organized societies that provide services to their members (or members). By means these organizations, members aim to achieve their goals, using cooperation and mutual aid as crucial elements. The research adopted a qualitative approach, grounded in, semi-structured individual interviews with the membership and employees. A total of 22 interviews were conducted, with 10 interviewees being active members, 8 interviewees being inactive members, and 4 interviewees being employees of the institution under study. Data obtained from the interviews revealed that the cooperative occupies a secondary position in the financial lives of most members, thus revealing a low priority regarding the use of its products and services. It also became clear how much the negative experience associated with bureaucracy and lack of autonomy in processes directly impacts this result. Portfolio diversification presented itself not only as a growth opportunity but also as a loyalty strategy, by offering solutions more aligned with the expectations of the target audience. The absence of this product, as well as others, limits the Cooperative's ability to position itself as a comprehensive institution, capable of meeting the broader financial protection needs of its members. A significant share of the members is inactive, meaning they are not using any of the Cooperative's Products and Services or any of its financial solutions. The lack of use of these products and services occurs largely due to misinformation; the informational vacuum that limits the potential for expanding the financial relationship between the parties. For a public increasingly accustomed to fast, intuitive digital solutions, any sign of slowness or the need for intermediation represents a significant barrier. Ultimately, it’s possible to conclude that, beyond operational issues, there’s a strategic repositioning challenge. The Cooperative needs to align its service structure and internal processes with a more agile model, investing in digital channels that increase member autonomy and reduce not only the perception of bureaucracy, but its actual existence. From the research, suggestions for improvements were presented, divided into four central areas: Cooperative Training and Education, Technology and Digital Channels, Service Portfolio, Communication and Relationships.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13924</link>
Ribeiro, Juliana Rondon
This Dissertacion aimed to propose, analyze, and validate the Educational Framework for Career Sustainability, designed as an instrument to support reflection, planning, and professional decision-making in contexts of high complexity. The research is grounded in the assumption that the notion of sustainable careers updates and replaces traditional understandings of stability, aligning with the contemporary transformations of the world of work and the increasing demand for individual protagonism, clarity, and adaptability. The framework is structured around three core pillars — Market, Pride (formerly named Personal Fulfillment), and Life — which articulate objective dimensions (such as employability, remuneration, and opportunities) and subjective ones (such as identity, values, and authorship of the professional journey). From this perspective, the model operates not only as a conceptual resource but also as a pedagogical and reflective instrument, integrating theory and practice to support careers that remain alive, prosperous, and coherent over time. To examine the relevance and applicability of the framework, a mixed methodological strategy was employed with data triangulation. The literature review provided theoretical foundations from classical and contemporary references in career studies, management, and complexity (Savickas, Morin, De Vos, Van der Heijden, among others). The survey, conducted with professionals who used the framework in their career planning processes, shed light on its practical contributions and educational potential. Finally, the expert panel offered technical validation and critical insights, suggesting possible improvements such as the inclusion of items on remuneration, the expansion of reflective questions, and the development of a prescriptive model based on responses. The results confirm the relevance of the Educational Framework for Career Sustainability as both an educational and reflective tool, capable of articulating subjective and objective dimensions, supporting consistent choices, and fostering the reinvention processes necessary for careers to remain sustainable. The findings also indicate that its applicability goes beyond the individual level, suggesting that the framework can be integrated into people management and corporate education practices, thereby strengthening more human-centered and adaptable organizational cultures. In summary, this dissertation contributes to the field of career management by offering an instrument that combines theoretical consistency, practical validation, and educational applicability. Furthermore, it opens pathways for future developments, such as the refinement of educational materials, the creation of more robust diagnostic questionnaires, and the integration of dimensions related to performance and mental health, reinforcing its potential for application in diverse social and organizational contexts.

Frigotto, Jonas Marcel
The telecommunications sector in the Northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul presents a unique competitive challenge: the coexistence of large multinational operators, such as Claro Brasil, and regional Internet Service Providers (ISPs), which leverage agility, proximity, and personalization as market differentiators. In this context, the challenge of this research was to investigate which marketing capabilities are necessary to create and sustain competitive advantage in developing regional markets. The general objective was to propose a marketing capabilities framework adapted to the reality of Northwestern Rio Grande do Sul. To this end, a mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining semi-structured interviews with Claro executives and external partners with a survey applied to 22 internal collaborators from Claro, allowing the triangulation of qualitative and quantitative data. The results indicated that Claro possesses robust marketing capabilities in brand, scale, and infrastructure but faces barriers related to execution agility, regional autonomy, and service personalization. In contrast, local ISPs stand out for their community proximity and rapid response to market demands. Five blocks of marketing capabilities critical to competitiveness in regional markets were identified: local agility; proximity and customer service; data-driven marketing–sales integration; adaptive governance; and customer-focused digitalization. Based on these findings, a framework was developed grounded in the Resource-Based Theory (RBT), dynamic capabilities (Teece, 2007), and the typology of marketing capabilities (Vorhies; Morgan, 2005), connecting theory and practice. It was observed that large operators can sustain competitive advantage in peripheral markets by balancing the strength of corporate scale with personalization and local embeddedness strategies, reinforcing their presence and competitiveness in highly rivalrous environments.

Pasini, Gilberto
This research identified Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) practices and described their connection with the ESG agenda and stakeholders in manufacturing industries. The exploratory study employed a multiple case study strategy, involving large, publicly traded manufacturing companies from different sectors to capture the diversity of practices and contexts. The research sought to understand how companies implement and integrate sustainability and social responsibility practices into their supply chains, and how these practices connect with organizational stakeholders. The research used in-depth interviews and document analysis to collect detailed data on the policies, processes, and outcomes of these practices. Data analysis was guided by thematic content evaluation to identify patterns, emerging themes, and relationships between SRM practices and perceived impacts on sustainability and corporate governance. The results contribute to a better understanding of how supplier management strategies can align with ESG objectives and positively influence the most representative stakeholders. Finally, the proposition of research-oriented guidelines across organizational, human resources, and technology dimensions provides relevant drivers for companies to promote more sustainable and responsible practices in their supply chain within the contemporary business context.

Haas, Bianca Heck
Innovation is a key factor for the survival and competitiveness of family-owned industrial firms, particularly within the context of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which face resource constraints, lean structures, and high managerial complexity. These firms constantly grapple with the challenge of balancing the pursuit of innovation with the need to maintain operational efficiency, generating tensions that arise from choices between ensuring present-day productivity and investing in future innovation, between maintaining stability and seeking adaptability, and between preserving the known and exploring the new. Organizational ambidexterity - understood as the ability to balance exploration (innovation and experimentation) and exploitation (efficiency and refinement of existing capabilities) - emerges as a promising approach to address these tensions. However, achieving this balance is challenging and involves risks such as knowledge loss, internal conflicts, and resistance to change. This study aims to propose practical guidelines to help family-owned industrial SMEs manage these tensions effectively. A qualitative multiple-case study was conducted, involving in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings reveal hybrid evidence of contextual, structural, and leadership-based ambidexterity, as well as recurring tensions related to succession, multifunctionality, risk management, and organizational culture. The research delivers strategic and operational guidelines to support the development of more balanced, adaptable, and sustainable management practices.

Gomes, Antonio Tabosa
In today’s landscape, profit-driven organizations coexist alongside entities committed to building a more solidarity-based society, often motivated by psychological, sociological, religious, and ideological values. Within this context, this Master’s research investigates a non-profit organization affiliated with a religious institution, with the aim of understanding the governance and management practices of its Board of Directors. The study is grounded in two classical governance theories: Agency Theory and Stewardship Theory. A qualitative methodology was employed through a single case study, adopting a constructivist, interpretive, and exploratory approach. Data was collected through document analysis, interviews, and direct observation, and was organized using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal a board composed entirely of women religious from diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Although some members lack formal training in management, they have developed tacit knowledge that supports their roles effectively. However, the board’s homogeneity, limited to members of consecrated life, poses challenges to plurality and diversity of perspectives, which are essential for sound governance practices. In light of this, the study presents a series of recommendations to strengthen the organization’s governance, including: ongoing training for board members; drafting of internal regulations; appointment of technical leadership; enhancement of communication channels; inclusion of technical staff in board meetings; definition of transparent decision-making criteria; establishment of a humane dismissal policy; periodic evaluations of the Board; and structured succession planning. This research aims to contribute to the advancement of governance studies in religious organizations characterized by the Catholic ethos, promoting reflections and practices more aligned with the principles of good governance in the third sector.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13889</link>
Silva, Jackson Dener Serafim
The objective of this study is to analyze the configurations of proximity dimensions among actors operating within the Regional Innovation Ecosystem (ERI) of the Vales region in Rio Grande do Sul, based on the innovation support programs of the Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (SICT/RS). The research is grounded in the theoretical approach of proximity dimensions (geographic, cognitive, organizational, social, and institutional), as proposed by Boschma (2005), aiming to identify how these dimensions influence the dynamics of collaboration among ecosystem actors, while also considering potential barriers and lock-in effects that may arise throughout the process. The research problem guiding this work is as follows: how do the configurations of proximity dimensions contribute to understanding the functioning of an emerging innovation ecosystem? To answer this question, a qualitative methodology was adopted, based on content analysis of innovation projects funded by SICT/RS programs between 2020 and 2023. Data collection included the analysis of official project documents and in-depth interviews with coordinators of five projects. The triangulation of these sources enabled a detailed analysis of interactions among the key actors in the ERI of the Vales region. The results revealed that the proximity dimensions play distinct roles in building collaboration networks. Organizational proximity is driven by previous interinstitutional relationships, facilitating the integration of new projects and partners. However, cognitive proximity stands out as a crucial factor, as the technical qualification of the actors involved is essential for executing the more complex activities of the projects. This dimension also poses a barrier, as the difficulty in attracting and retaining qualified researchers, due to the low value of research grants, was a recurring issue. Social proximity, based on prior collaborations and trust ties, also proved to be a cohesive factor but simultaneously demonstrated the potential to create a lock-in effect, limiting the inclusion of new partners in the ecosystem. Institutional proximity was evident, as the rules and budgetary requirements imposed by SICT/RS created significant barriers, such as delays in purchasing equipment and reagents, hindering the fulfillment of project timelines. The interviews also revealed that municipal governments, as institutional partners, often struggle to align their bureaucratic processes with the innovative demands of the projects, posing additional challenges for carrying out planned activities. The discussion highlighted that, although the proximity dimensions are essential for the functioning of the ERI of the Vales, the barriers related to institutional and cognitive proximity represent obstacles that may compromise the ecosystem's sustainability in the long term. Greater flexibility in innovation policies, combined with a higher valuation of the human resources involved in the projects, could mitigate these challenges, promoting the development of a more dynamic and inclusive ecosystem. It is concluded that, for the ERI of the Vales to reach greater maturity, a coordinated effort among ecosystem actors is necessary to overcome the identified barriers, particularly regarding institutional and cognitive proximity. The inclusion of new mechanisms for trust-building and incentives for innovation within municipal governments and other local entities could expand the diversity of partnerships and strengthen the ecosystem, making it more resilient and better prepared to face innovation challenges in the regional context.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13857</link>
This study offers a novel perspective by identifying the adoption of ESG practices within the theoretical-conceptual context of an emerging techno-economic paradigm. As a result, it seeks empirical evidence of the influence of ESG engagement levels on the economic and financial performance metrics of companies operating in regions that have historically guided and consolidated techno-economic paradigms (G7 countries). Using three sample sets covering observations of 1,218 to 2,447 companies over an eight-year period (2016-2023) and classifying ESG engagement levels into quartiles within the sector cluster by country, tests for differences in means show that the group of companies in the fourth quartile outperforms the group at the opposite extreme. However, in a mixed-effects regression analysis that considers other influential variables, a higher level of ESG engagement did not show distinctly different effects on company performance. Therefore, it is not possible to assert that the adoption of ESG practices implies compensatory differences for companies (bonuses for the best or penalties for the worst) within the space and timeframe of this study. Nevertheless, indications of differences in company profiles (size and financial leverage) across the quartile scale of ESG adoption indicate preparation for an imminent period of impact of ESG engagement levels on business value drivers. This observation aligns with the thesis of this study and encourages continued debate and analysis on compensatory differences related to the paradigmatic evolution of ESG adoption.

Olimpio, Geysa Medeiros
The objective of this study was to analyze the determining factors of the performance of Accounting Science graduates in the CFC Proficiency Exam, focusing on in-person and distance learning modalities. The study period covered the years 2012 to 2023. The study metric relates the coefficients of the multiple linear regression model to explain the performance of Accounting Science graduates. The data were initially treated in Pearson's Chi-Square Test between In-Person and Distance Learning Modalities, Proportions Test, as well as Global Statistics to present the Regression model. The test results indicated that the teaching modality is strongly associated with the difference in approval rates, with the In-Person modality presenting superior performance in terms of approval. The regression model explains a large part of the variability in performance (high R²), with the number of approved candidates and dropout rates standing out as statistically significant predictors. These findings reinforce the importance of measures that reduce the lack of preparation and increase the number of approvals in the CFC Proficiency Exam.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13855</link>
This thesis proposes an analytical model to examine the role of management accounting (controllership) during organizational crises, focusing on its functions in supporting decision-making and sustaining organizational resilience. The study’s relevance lies in understanding how this function effectively contributes to overcoming adverse contexts. Although authors such as Anthony (1979), Chenhall (2003), and Teixeira (2013) acknowledge the importance of management accounting as managerial support, the literature still lacks studies addressing its role in crisis scenarios. As discussed in the theoretical framework, existing research is limited and generally sector-specific, leaving a gap regarding the performance of management accounting across different phases of the crisis cycle (Teixeira, 2013; Tillema; Trapp; Veen, 2022; Wu; Bo Shao; Gary, 2021). To bridge this gap, a qualitative, descriptive approach was adopted through a multiple case study of three companies in southern Brazil that faced distinct types of crises: the COVID-19 pandemic, flooding, and input shortages (of sanitary, environmental, and structural nature). Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with managers and management accounting professionals, complemented by analysis of internal organizational documents. Findings indicate that management accounting played a central role in supporting management, particularly through timely information generation, budget restructuring, performance indicator review, and financial support for activity reorganization. Integration with other areas and the maturity level of management accounting also emerged as critical factors for effective crisis responses. Based on these findings, a referential model was developed to systematize the functions of management accounting before, during, and after crises, offering practical and theoretical contributions to strengthen its role in management support and organizational continuity.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13851</link>
Dissiuta, Sabrina Ilha
Crowding is a perception of crowd in retail environments, referring to a restriction of available space and integrating both environmental and human factors. This understanding comes from combining different factors that can influence crowding, such as environmental visual stimuli and psychological and cognitive aspects, through positive or negative emotions. This research investigates how black and white contrast stimuli influence the perception of crowding and the extent to which spatial distance moderates this relationship, from a construal level theory (CLT) perspective. Through two complementary experiments, environmental (colors) and psychological (spatial distance) stimuli were integrated. In study 1, a field experiment was conducted among subjects (N=59), who were exposed to black (white) contrast stimuli and responded to a spatial crowding measurement scale. The results confirmed H1, showing that the black contrast environment generated a space reduction effect and the white contrast generated a space increase effect, thus influencing the perception of crowding. Study 2 was conducted in a laboratory using an eye-tracking tool, combining spatial distance and color contrast stimuli. The experiment was applied among subjects (N=124), who were exposed to near (far) stimuli and instructed to simulate shopping in an environment with black (white) contrast stimuli. At the end, participants responded to a scale measuring spatial crowding, human crowding, and intolerance, in addition to two questions about their emotional state. The experiment confirmed H2: the moderation of far spatial distance was more significant in white contrast for spatial crowding and more significant in near distance for black contrast for human crowding. At the same time, study 2 confirmed H3 by highlighting emotions such as irritability and excitement as enhancers of human crowding in the black contrast. The research advances the literature by relating effects of perceptual salience and environmental perception, moderated by a psychological variable, shaping subjective assessments of density. It distinguishes spatial and human crowding as antecedents of intolerance. From a managerial perspective, it implies strategies for optimizing layout and positioning of elements to reduce crowding and lessen the negative impacts of intolerance.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13850</link>
Kepler, Roseli Cristina Hack
Human capital is one of the foundations for the development of organizations, cities and regions. Human capital is meant, the stock of available skills and knowledge, whether in individual or collective level, constituted by formal education, technical and professional education and informal education, which is tangible in qualified professionals. These professionals make choices about their place of activity and are therefore susceptible to factors of development, attraction and retention. Previous studies reveal that large cities, with qualified urban infrastructure, prevail as attraction poles of qualified professionals. Based on the theory of human capital, especially in studies on mobility, attraction and retention of human capital, this study examined the following question: How different actors, such as companies, public power, educational institutions and civil associations, act to establish development, attraction, and retention of human capital in small cities? To answer this question, the case of the city of Panambi/RS was analyzed, which meets the criterion of being a small city and that contemporary faces the challenge of developing, attracting and retaining qualified professionals, although it had economic success as an industrial pole in the twentieth century. Secondary data were consulted and 14 interviews conducted, with managers representatively of the investigated actors. The data were analyzed in its content in in the approach of thematic analysis. Three themes were considered subdivided into categories. The themes development of human capital and attraction and retention of human capital in cities derived from previous reviewed studies. Already, a third theme that consists of the actions of the QUADRUPLE propeller, was established inductively. As conclusions, it is noteworthy that this study contributes that, in small cities, the limitations caused by the weak agglomeration to the attraction and retention of human capital, can be compensated to some extent with connectivity, quality of life, health and safety. The study also contributes highlighting that the actions of the Helix Quadruple, involving companies, public authorities, educational institutions and civil associations, such as the creation of a local hub of innovation, continuous investments in education at different levels, and the improvement of health and safety services, mitigating gaps related to the development, attraction and retention of human capital in a small city.

<title>Micro governança de redes interorganizacionais: a auditoria governamental no contexto de combate à corrupção</title>
<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13849</link>
<description>Micro governança de redes interorganizacionais: a auditoria governamental no contexto de combate à corrupção
Machado, Rodrigo Moreira
The formation of interorganizational networks to promote strategic actions is an increasingly present reality in the daily operations of both public and private sectors, serving as an alternative for sustainable development. It is within this context that micro-network governance emerges, along with its practices advocated by specialized literature as a pathway to address complex problems. Despite significant advances in research, further investigation is needed into the role of routine governance activities, particularly in the public sector. This study aims to fill that gap by analyzing micro-governance practices within the public environment that foster high-impact outcomes. The research method used to address the objectives was a case study of an interorganizational network formed by three public agencies within the administrative structure of the State of Rio Grande do Sul. This network comprises the State Department of Finance, the Department of Public Security, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, established to combat corruption. As a result, the theoretical gap was addressed by putting micro-network governance mechanisms into practice. Additionally, improvements were identified, as arbitration and monitoring mechanisms require adjustments when applied in the public sector. It was also found that institutionalization is a necessary micro-governance practice within the public domain.&#13;
Based on this discovery, a new framework was developed for micro-governance mechanisms tailored to the public sector. The study offers theoretical contributions by filling an empirical application gap of micro-governance mechanisms that enhance collaborative environments in the public sector. From a managerial perspective, it provides a deeper understanding of the micro-governance mechanisms necessary for collaboration, along with specific recommendations for the next stages of network maturity. Finally, from a social standpoint, the research identified that the application of micro-governance mechanisms in the fight against corruption resulted in financial gains of approximately 56 million reais during the study period.

This thesis investigates the role of regulatory focus in the formation of negative emotional responses toward brands, with an emphasis on the phenomenon of brand hate. Drawing on Regulatory Focus Theory, it is argued that consumers with a prevention orientation tend to react more intensely to negative brand-related stimuli, expressing hostile emotions and avoidance behaviors. Three experimental studies were conducted, combining self-reported measures with neurophysiological indicators obtained through EyeTracking and FaceReader. This multimethod approach enabled a more accurate capture of the cognitive and emotional processes underlying consumers’ negative reactions to brands, enhancing the understanding of nonverbal responses in consumption contexts. The results indicate that a prevention focus is associated with a higher propensity for brand hate, mediated by negative emotional reactions and unfavorable cognitive evaluations. The thesis contributes to the advancement of the literature on consumer emotions and brand management in crisis contexts, offering theoretical and practical insights for communication strategies and reputation damage mitigation.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13847</link>
Aranguez, Beatrice
In contemporary cities, urban logistics represents a critical challenge due to the growing demand for rapid deliveries, traffic congestion, and increasing pressure for sustainable practices. This environment reveals fragmented data, lack of standardization across available databases, and limited digital maturity within public institutions. At the same time, Machine Learning (ML) techniques provide new possibilities for transforming dispersed information into actionable knowledge, although a considerable gap remains between technical potential and practical implementation in urban management. Within this context, the research aimed to develop a theoretical framework that integrates ML into Decision Support Systems (DSS), with the purpose of supporting public managers in decision-making processes related to urban logistics. The study adopted the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, combining systematic literature review, in-depth interviews, a structured questionnaire, and validation interviews. Ten specialists from the fields of Artificial Intelligence, innovation, and public management participated in the research, enabling triangulated analysis between qualitative and quantitative data. The findings demonstrated the feasibility of an eight-stage cyclical model designed to transform urban data into well-founded decisions. The study also identified institutional barriers, digital maturity requirements, and strategies for bridging data, algorithms, and management practices, reinforcing the practical applicability of the model to the public sector. The framework contributes to the literature by articulating technical, institutional, and operational dimensions of urban logistics, offering a consistent and adaptable conceptual basis. From a practical perspective, it provides clear guidelines for public managers facing fragmented data and the urgency for more agile and evidence-based decisions. As limitations, the research highlights the absence of real-world testing and the restricted sample size, opening opportunities for further studies in different institutional and territorial contexts.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13763</link>
Shimomukay, Roseane
The Brazilian supplementary healthcare sector constitutes a contested field, characterized by tensions between economic, social, and political interests. This study, grounded in institutional theory, seeks to understand the dynamics of legitimacy in this market by analyzing its historical trajectory, current structure, and emerging institutional logics. The research identifies three predominant institutional logics — the market logic, the social rights logic, and the state logic — that influence the practices and decisions of sector actors. The findings indicate that the sector's legitimacy is continuously challenged by factors such as the perception of excessive profit-driven focus, the intense growth of judicialization, and questions regarding the effectiveness of ANS regulation. Attacks on the sector's legitimacy undermine trust among stakeholders, requiring strategies that reconcile regulatory pressures, social demands, and ethical practices to sustain the market's normative, cognitive, and regulatory legitimacy. Strategies focused on transparency and consumer education are highlighted as essential for strengthening market trust and promoting greater balance. The theoretical contribution of this study lies in its understanding of the dynamics of legitimation and delegitimation in a contested market influenced by multiple institutional logics and marked by strong regulatory presence. The practical contribution lies in providing insights for the development of institutional and discursive strategies that reinforce the sector’s legitimacy through proposals to mitigate the attacks promoted by identified narratives. Finally, the study of the supplementary healthcare market can support public policies by revealing different perspectives and discourses within the debate.

Ferreira, Ricardo Ertel
This research investigates the applicability of the Leadership Pipeline in an agricultural cooperative, analyzing its opportunities and limitations. The Pipeline model structures leadership development into seven progressive levels, based on professional values, time management, and specific skills. However, the organizational structure and cooperative culture, characterized by shared governance, decentralized decision-making, and strong collaboration, may present different implications for its implementation compared to conventional organizations. Through qualitative interviews with leaders from a large agricultural cooperative and another that already adopts the Pipeline model, the study sought to understand their perceptions regarding their leadership journey and development. The results indicate that, although the model serves as an effective strategy for leadership development and management, its implementation faces challenges such as the lack of a formal succession process, the need for a strategic HR approach, and the involvement of senior leadership. The direct participation of the board in leadership development emerged as a crucial factor for the model’s success. Additionally, discrepancies between leaders' perceptions and organizational reality were identified, emphasizing the importance of structured career progression processes. The study recommends continuous training, talent management enhancement, and stronger HR alignment with organizational strategy, ensuring systematic leadership development while respecting the cooperative culture. Thus, this research contributes to the discussion on management professionalization, governance strengthening, and the long-term sustainability of agricultural cooperatives.

The thesis discusses the strategy for education in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from the government, the state department of education, the regional education coordinators and state schools. Using Design Science Research as a research method, it proposes an artifact that helps solve the problem. The problem has to do with the poor results of Brazilian education and the state of Rio Grande do Sul in particular. Indicators are presented that demonstrate the low performance of students. The proposed research question was: how can strategies for education in Rio Grande do Sul be better deployed, executed and monitored? In the literature review, it presents an analysis of strategy and education management and seeks references in the work of Robert Kaplan and David Norton on Balanced Scorecard for the solution presented. The research was carried out with a representative of the state government, with the current secretary of education, with the previous secretary of education, with a regional education coordinator and with a state school director. As a result of this research, a lack of harmony between the different levels of government was demonstrated, regarding their strategies for education. Based on the elements collected and following the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, the artifact was developed, tested with a focus group and presented at the end. The artifact is a tool based on the Balanced Scorecard, being a cloud system that can be accessed via desktop, tablet or cell phone and allows the state government, State Department of Education, Regional Education Coordinators and state schools to prepare their plans, execute and monitor performance, in a connected and aligned way at its different levels. This artifact will be available to interested governments, both at state and municipal levels, contributing to better planning and execution of education strategies.

Bolzan, Jessyca Leon
The training of successors should be understood as a strategic practice that highlights managerial responsibility and concern for the longevity of cooperative organizations. The absence of leadership prepared for continuity can have negative impacts on activities, compromising their growth and sustainable development. Therefore, this study aims to understand, from the perspective of the cooperative members, the factors that influence the succession of the boards of an agricultural cooperative in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The research adopted a qualitative approach through a case study, using document analysis, focus group discussions, and observation as data collection techniques. The participant groups in the study were composed of 52 individuals, including board members, fiscal council members (both regular and alternate), cooperative members, former board members, and dependents, with varying profiles in terms of age, position, and length of association with the cooperative.&#13;
The data were analyzed based on thematic categories, enabling an understanding of the main factors influencing succession, and data triangulation provided support for suggesting guidelines for the formalization of a succession program. The results show that the cooperative is already making efforts to train its members, recognizing the importance of qualified succession. The research revealed that the sense of belonging is the main motivation for participation in elected positions, while some barriers remain, such as unclear bylaws and the absence of objective criteria for certain processes. It is concluded that senior management and cooperative members are demonstrating increasing institutional maturity and engagement with internal improvements, which supports the development of an environment more prepared for board succession. The findings can inform corrective actions and strategies to improve governance within the cooperative.

Powdered milk consumption in Brazil is influenced by economic, cultural, health and behavioral factors, making it a complex topic of analysis. This study investigated the challenges of legitimacy and the consumption dynamics of this product in Rio Grande do Sul, considering the elements that affect its acceptance. The research is justified by the importance of the sector in generating employment and income, in addition to the need for strategies to encourage consumption. The methodological approach adopted was qualitative and interpretative, allowing us to understand consumers' perceptions and behaviors in depth. The results showed that the preference for fresh milk is strongly linked to cultural factors. However, challenges such as the historical association of powdered milk with contexts of scarcity and the lack of knowledge about its nutritional benefits impact its acceptance in the Rio Grande do Sul market. Given this scenario, marketing and communication strategies are essential to increase the acceptance of powdered milk, including educational campaigns, packaging innovations and partnerships with opinion leaders. Furthermore, the historical reinterpretation of the product and its valorization as a practical and nutritious alternative can contribute to its legitimization. Therefore, strengthening the image of powdered milk, combined with a strategic approach, can consolidate it as a viable and advantageous option for consumers.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13756</link>
The study aimed to understand the perceptions of cooperative managers about the contributions of the implementation of the Cooperative Development Program (PDGC). Specifically, it sought to characterize the sociodemographic and professional profile of the subjects participating in the research; identify the professionals' perception regarding the applicability of the PDGC; verify the Governance structures used by the cooperatives. Methodologically, the study was defined as qualitative, descriptive, and as a research instrument, an online interview was applied to 08 managers with an adapted script. The interview script was adapted from the authors Bauer (2020) and Scott, 2023, composed of profile questions and open questions about the PDGC that allowed for a deeper exploration. The data were analyzed, coded and processed in Word. Content analysis was used for the analysis. The results indicated a predominance of females, which is a positive reflection of the space conquered by women in strategic and leadership positions within the organization. The ages range from 30 to 52 years old, which indicates a group of respondents in full professional maturity. Teams are at different levels of structuring, with structured teams, with responsibilities distributed across sectors of people management, processes, and environment, and are advanced in relation to the PDGC. A direct involvement of management and superintendence was also revealed, with a consolidated process area, which contributes to the maturity of management and use of the PDGC. Governance structures used by cooperatives. It was found that the governance of cooperatives is aligned with the extended traditional model, that is, it maintains the basic structure of the traditional model, composed of a general assembly, fiscal council, and administrative council, but incorporates an executive board. It is also suggested for future research comparisons between cooperatives in another sector, analyzing similarities and particularities in their governance models.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13755</link>
Boelter, Diego
This study investigates resource orchestration in digital ecosystems, focusing on agribusiness, and explores how companies organize, combine, and leverage resources to generate competitive advantage. The research adopts a single case study of Orbia, a well-established digital platform in the agricultural sector, analyzing its resource orchestration mechanisms and value creation strategies. The theoretical framework is based on the Resource-Based View (VBR) and its evolution into Resource Orchestration, which emphasizes the strategic mobilization of internal and external assets to drive innovation and sustainability in digital ecosystems. The methodology is qualitative, employing document analysis and semi-structured interviews to capture the orchestration dynamics within Orbia. Data analysis is coded using the template analysis methodology. The results indicate that competitive advantage in digital ecosystems does not stem solely from possessing valuable resources but from the ability to efficiently manage and combine them in collaboration with strategic partners. The study highlights the central role of resource orchestration and cooperation among ecosystem actors, demonstrating that successful digital platforms operate through strategic interdependence among complementary companies. The contributions of this research are both theoretical and practical. Theoretically, the study reinforces the relevance of Resource Orchestration as an extension of VBR in digital environments. From a managerial perspective, it provides insights into how companies can structure their digital ecosystems to maximize value and competitiveness. The study presents some limitations, such as analyzing a single case, which may restrict the generalization of findings. As a suggestion for future research, it is recommended to explore multiple digital ecosystems across different sectors to broaden the understanding of resource orchestration strategies.

This study aims to analyze the contributions of the Human Resources (HR) department to the achievement of organizational goals in an agricultural cooperative. The research is based on the understanding that HR can play a strategic role by aligning people management practices with institutional objectives and cooperative principles. To this end, a literature review was conducted on the cooperative model, the fundamentals of people management, and the strategic roles of HR in the contemporary organizational context. The investigation adopted a quantitative approach and involved the application of a structured questionnaire to senior management and managers of an agricultural cooperative located in the northwest region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, with the aim of capturing perceptions about the positioning of the HR department, its degree of alignment with organizational strategy, and its effectiveness in processes such as communication, talent development, and organizational culture. The results indicate that, although the HR area is recognized as important, there are still challenges to consolidating its role as a strategic agent. The study proposes improvements in people management practices and emphasizes the importance of integrating cooperative values into HR policies, fostering greater synergy between departments and contributing to the organization's sustainability.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13753</link>
Both, Carolina
Considering the relevance of agricultural cooperatives for the socioeconomic development of Rio Grande do Sul, this study aims to analyze how capital structure indicators are used in the financial management decisions of these organizations. Based on classical capital structure theories, especially the Pecking Order Theory (POT) and the Trade-off Theory, the study adopts a qualitative and descriptive approach, based on a multiple case study involving four large agricultural cooperatives. Data collection was carried out through triangulation of sources, combining documentary analysis of the 2023 financial statements — to calculate indicators such as profitability, liquidity, solvency, and debt — and semi-structured interviews with financial managers, in order to capture perceptions and management practices. The data were analyzed through content analysis and integration of quantitative and qualitative information. The results demonstrate that financial indicators are central to the management of cooperatives, influencing decisions on debt, investments, and distribution of surpluses. It was observed that larger and more profitable cooperatives tend to adopt more conservative positions regarding the use of third-party capital, considering not only financial metrics, but also social and strategic aspects and meeting the needs of members. Risks such as default and seasonality directly impact financial decision-making. Among the practical recommendations, the following stand out: improving strategic financial planning, prudent debt management, multifactorial assessment of investment viability, continuous risk monitoring and strengthening the financial education of members. This study fills a gap in the literature by applying classical theories to the cooperative context of Rio Grande do Sul and offers relevant insights for managers and researchers seeking to understand and improve financial management in agricultural cooperatives.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13703</link>
Carvalho, Monique Fernandes Pereira
The objective of the study is to analyze the deepening of trade relations between&#13;
China and the African continent and the economic effects on various sectors,&#13;
especially the Brazilian soybean complex. The methodology used was the computable&#13;
general equilibrium model and the GTAP 11 database, with the classification of&#13;
products by level of technological intensity according to the OECD. The integration of&#13;
Africa (AfCFTA) in itself leads the bloc to be part of global discussions on trade. The&#13;
results indicate that the AfCFTA would increase intra-bloc trade, lead to welfare gains&#13;
and increase production in sectors with greater use of technology and, in return, there&#13;
would be a reduction in the production of soybeans and other primary products. In the&#13;
assessment of an AfCFTA agreement with China, the only beneficiary in terms of&#13;
welfare would be China, both in allocative efficiency and in terms of exchange. Seeking&#13;
to analyze whether the free trade agreement between China and the AfCFTA could&#13;
affect trade in the soybean complex, given that China is a major importer of soybeans&#13;
from Brazil and Africa has vast territorial extensions with strong similarities in&#13;
agroclimatic conditions with Brazil, the simulation of the agreement indicated that the&#13;
effects would be modest for the soybean sector, with a slight drop in soybean&#13;
production on the African continent and a small increase in soybean production in&#13;
Brazil. However, the increase in Brazilian soybean production leads to a loss of welfare&#13;
due to losses in the terms of trade.

Buchmann, Jurandir Luiz
The objective of the study is to analyze the opportunities that MERCOSUR's&#13;
trade agreement with the EU would generate for both blocs, with an emphasis on&#13;
agribusiness in the countries of the South American bloc. The computable general&#13;
equilibrium model was used, using the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP)&#13;
database, version 11, to simulate the impacts on production and trade and the effects&#13;
on well-being. The results show that there would be a global gain in well-being for the&#13;
countries participating in the agreement, with emphasis on Brazil and the EU, which&#13;
would have more significant gains. As for trade, there would be expansion for Brazil in&#13;
the primary and low-technology sectors, where agribusiness products are included.

<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13701</link>
This thesis consists of three articles that examine the behavior of economic complexity and relatedness in Brazil’s micro-regions from 2002 to 2020. The economic complexity literature has been rapidly expanding, providing increasingly robust evidence on how a country’s economic structure is shaped and its implications for wealth generation, population well-being, and related topics. However, significant gaps remain regarding its effects on economic growth and formal income inequality, particularly in developing countries. At the micro-regional level, this study accounts for the dynamics of temporal and spatial heterogeneity, using reliable regional data while controlling for unobserved factors. The first article calculates the economic complexity of different activities, and analyzes the spatial distribution patterns of economic complexity and relatedness (cognitive proximity between activities) across Brazilian micro-regions through Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA). The findings indicate that the most complex economic&#13;
activities are concentrated in the manufacturing sector, followed by IT and related services.&#13;
The study also identifies a positive spatial dependence of economic complexity and relatedness, revealing a high degree of spatial concentration in certain regions. This concentration is influenced by the broader economic context, as evidenced by the increased spatial clustering of economic complexity following the 2015/2016 Brazilian economic crisis. The formation of high-high clusters (high complexity and relatedness within the micro-region and its neighboring areas) is predominantly observed in the Southeast and South regions throughout the analyzed period, reflecting significant disparities in productive capabilities across the country. The second article examines the effects of economic complexity and relatedness on economic growth in&#13;
Brazil’s micro-regions. To this end, dynamic spatial panel data models (SDM, SDGMM-SYS, and SDGMM-DIF) with instrumental variables were applied to a dataset covering 558 Brazilian micro-regions, incorporating employment data for 59 economic activities over the period. The results suggest that higher levels of economic complexity and relatedness are associated with an increase in micro-regional GDP per capita. Additionally, the effects of economic complexity on economic growth vary across the country’s regions, highlighting regional disparities. Finally, the third article investigates the influence of economic complexity and relatedness on regional formal income inequality in Brazil’s labor market. Employment data for each economic activity in the 558 micro-regions were analyzed using dynamic fixed-effects panel regression models and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) with instrumental variables. The findings reveal that both economic complexity and relatedness contribute to reducing income inequality&#13;
in the formal labor market, with the impact of economic complexity being particularly pronounced in micro-regions that exhibited high initial income inequality. These results provide an original contribution to the regional economic literature in Brazil, emphasizing the positive spillover effects of economic complexity and cognitive proximity among economic activities in reducing income disparities. In summary, this thesis demonstrates that economic complexity and relatedness have positive effects on economic growth and play a significant role in mitigating formal income inequality at the micro-regional level in Brazil. These findings underscore the need for public policies that foster economic complexity, productive diversification, and regional capacity building, particularly in historically disadvantaged areas.
