<description>Risco de quedas e fatores associados em idosos comunitários residentes de São Leopoldo/RS
Silveira, Eduarda Vitória Fadini
This master’s dissertation from the Graduate Program in Public Health at UNISINOS&#13;
aimed to investigate the prevalence and factors associated with fall risk among&#13;
community-dwelling older adults in São Leopoldo. This is a cross-sectional analytical&#13;
observational study, with a sample composed of 136 older adults linked to the&#13;
municipal Health Care Network. Fall risk was assessed using the Timed Up and Go&#13;
(TUG) test, being classified as moderate/high in 11% of the participants. Bivariate&#13;
analysis identified significant associations between fall risk and fear of falling, history&#13;
of falls, reduced handgrip strength, and higher SARC-F scores. In the multivariable&#13;
logistic regression, poorer performance in the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST)&#13;
and shorter distance covered in the Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) emerged as&#13;
independent predictors of increased risk. The distinctive feature of this research lies in the unprecedented integration of multiple functional, muscular, and clinical indicators in a Brazilian community-dwelling older population, demonstrating that low-cost, simple, and applicable instruments in the daily routine of Primary Health Care can enable the early identification of older adults in situations of functional vulnerability. The originality of the study resides in translating physical performance measures into objective and feasible screening tools, providing direct support for clinical practice, intervention planning, and the&#13;
design of public policies. As outcomes, the study highlights the creation of a pioneering epidemiological and functional database in Southern Brazil, the validation of clinical risk predictors, the production of a scientific article under submission to an international journal, and the training of new researchers integrated into collaborative networks.&#13;
It is concluded that the findings of this dissertation have immediate practical&#13;
relevance and transformative potential: by proposing accessible predictors, the study&#13;
not only contributes to science but also offers concrete solutions to reduce fall risk,&#13;
prevent disabilities, and promote healthy aging, with a positive impact on both the&#13;
quality of life of the older population and the sustainability of health systems.

<title>Determinantes da não retenção de usuários de um serviço de HIV e AIDS do Rio Grande do Sul: um estudo de caso-controle</title>
<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/13789</link>
<description>Determinantes da não retenção de usuários de um serviço de HIV e AIDS do Rio Grande do Sul: um estudo de caso-controle
Soares, Cassiana Borges
OBJECTIVE: To know the determinants of non-retention in health care of&#13;
people living with HIV and / or AIDS (PLWHA) in a specialized service in Porto&#13;
Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. METHODS: Case-control study among PLWHA over 18&#13;
years of age retained and not retained in continued health care, in 2018. A total of&#13;
344 medical records, 86 cases and 258 matched controls per year of admission to&#13;
the clinic were analyzed. Variables with p ≤ 0.20 in the bivaried analysis were taken&#13;
for multivariate analysis, exposures with p ≤ 0.05 were considered associated with&#13;
the outcome. Poisson regression was used, according to a hierarchical model of&#13;
analysis. RESULTS: Being unemployed, having a history of homelessness and being&#13;
an alcohol user were significantly associated with non-retention. Among the clinical&#13;
factors, having other diseases remained associated with the outcome as a protective&#13;
factor. CONCLUSION: The findings of this study showed the association of nonretention with factors of social vulnerability and explained that social inequalities&#13;
implied in reducing the maintenance of these individuals in longitudinal care.&#13;
Therefore, it is essential that the SDH be taken into account when dealing with the&#13;
HIV epidemic.

<description>Transmissão vertical do HIV em um município da região metropolitana de Porto Alegre/RS: um estudo de caso-controle
Teloken, Jéssica da Silva
This dissertation aims to evaluate the vertical transmission (MT) of HIV and associated factors in exposed children living in the municipality of Viamão, between 2000 and 2023. We chose to carry out this topic due to the lack of studies that describe the situation of HIV MT in the municipality and the importance of this result for the implementation of contextualized measures that assist in the health care of exposed children. A case and control study was developed with data from the population of pregnant women and children exposed to HIV, using the National Disease Notification System (SINAN) database, HIV Pregnant database, with demographic variables of the pregnant woman, detection of infection of HIV, prenatal care and childbirth and information on the pregnant woman's anti-HIV test, use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) during pregnancy and childbirth, newborn exams and their evolution, including outcome. Missing information was investigated in the database of exposed children (SINAN Aids in children under 13 years of age) based on the variable mother's name, common to both banks as well as among adults reported as cases of HIV/Aids (SINAN HIV) . Information on CD4 and viral load in the pre-delivery period was obtained from the logistical control system for laboratory tests (SISCEL). Missing data on ART initiation were obtained from the Medication Logistics Control System (SICLOM) and number of prenatal consultations in the Live Birth Control System (SINASC). The cases were all pregnant women with children who acquired HIV infection during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding in the municipality and period studied. Four controls were drawn using random numbers for each period, for each case, matched by year of diagnosis. STATA software was used for statistical analysis. A bivariate analysis was performed with the variables using Pearson's chi-square test and variables with p&lt;0.2 in the bivariate analysis were included in the logistic regression model. In Pearson's chi-square test, the variables that showed statistical significance with HIV VT were use of prophylactic ART (p&lt;0.01) and time of use of prophylactic ART (p&lt;0.001). The results of the logistic regression showed that the duration of ART use during pregnancy remained associated with HIV VT, mainly at the expense of the category that did not use ART, where women who did not use ART are 7 times more likely to have HIV. outcome of TV to HIV in relation to those who used it. The age of the pregnant woman was associated in the model and shows that younger pregnant women are less likely to have the outcome of VT and HIV compared to pregnant women aged 40 or over. It was concluded that HIV VT is more likely to occur in pregnant women who did not adhere to ART during pregnancy, even with adherence to prenatal care, and demonstrates that quality prenatal care, with adequate structure and qualified professionals for the companionship and development of pregnancy is an important factor in changing the scenario found and reducing HIV VT rates.

<description>A percepção de profissionais da atenção primária à saúde sobre o risco no uso de medicamentos para segurança do paciente com doença crônica não transmissível
Martins, Evânia Lopes
The article aimed to understand the perception of primary care professionals regarding the risk of medication use for patient safety with Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases (NCDs). It is a qualitative research with an exploratory design and a critical hermeneutic approach, conducted in 2023 in Sapucaia do Sul/RS municipality. Data collection was done through discussion of focus groups in five primary care units. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis and interpreted from a dialectical hermeneutic perspective. The results portrayed three thematic units: "Prescription Errors," "Administration Errors," and "Strategies to minimize medication errors for patient safety." Professionals highlighted issues such as readability errors, duplicate prescriptions, and lack of understanding in the correct use of medications. On the other hand, practices such as professional qualification, qualified listening, and the use of integrated electronic medical records were identified as necessary to reduce medication errors, aiming to promote rational drug use and ensure patient safety with NCDs in primary care. It is concluded that these findings have the potential to stimulate future reflections and the development of new studies, contributing to the visibility of the issue and strengthening strategies aimed at reducing medication errors and improving primary care assistance.

Oliveira, Gustavo Rodrigues
Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that manifests clinically with impairment in social interaction and communication, as well as stereotyped and repetitive behaviors. There is an increase in the incidence of autism cases around the world and its predominance in males can be observed. Autistic people can be diagnosed at three levels depending on the need for support to carry out routine activities. The disorder may have several associated comorbidities, it has no proven cause, nor pharmacological treatment, only behavioral. However, there is a search for alternative treatments to treat the symptoms of autism, such as the medicinal use of cannabis, which has shown to be a possible alternative to treat anxiety, depression, social interaction deficits and other markers that the literature has proven. The limitation of the use of this treatment is the low number of quality experimental studies that attest to long-term safety and efficacy, in addition to the misinformation caused by Fake News on the subject, since the recreational use of cannabis is criminalized in Brazil and its medicinal use is limited. This project seeks to be an ally of health education by developing an artificial conversational agent called a chatbot called CISMA (Informative Chatbot About Marijuana) that provides information about the medicinal use of cannabis in treating the symptoms of autism. The tool had a good evaluation by experts on the subject and good usability attested by potential users. With this, it was possible to conclude that CISMA is a powerful ally of health communication and education, however there is a need for more robust studies with certified quality on the proposed intervention, so that the tool can be updated with quality information.

<description>Religiosidade e o uso de drogas ilícitas entre estudantes de uma universidade do centro-oeste brasileiro
Costa, Glauco Rogerio Alves da
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between religiosity and the use of drugs (illegal drugs such as cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy, oxy and inhalants) in students from a university in the Brazilian Midwest. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with a population of 2188 college students who answered a standardized and pre-tested self-administered questionnaire. All students of health courses regularly enrolled during the research period, of both sexes and aged 18 years or older, were included. The outcome was lifetime and past 30 days use of drugs. The exposure was religiosity assessed by the Duke Religiosity Index. Poisson regression with robust variance was used to estimate prevalence ratios and confidence intervals. Results: The prevalence of lifetime and past 30 days use of drugs was 39.5% (95%CI 37.4- 41.6%) and 16% (95% CI 14.5-17.6%), respectively. After controlling for demographic, socioeconomic, academic, and behavioral variables, individuals who never or rarely attended (organizational religiosity) or practiced (non-organizational religiosity) religious services or their religion had a 36% prevalence of lifetime use of these substances (95%CI 17-57%) and 25% (95%CI 10-42%) higher when compared to those who attended or practiced regularly, respectively. In addition, college students with low experience of religion in their lives (intrinsic religiosity) had a prevalence of lifetime use of drugs 79% (95%CI 50-212%) higher than those with high. Regarding recent use, undergraduate students with low organizational, non-organizational and intrinsic religiosity had a prevalence of past 30 days use of other drugs 59% (95%CI 18-214%), 33% (95%CI 5-68%) and 2.2 (95%CI 1.54-3,14) times higher than those with high religiosity, respectively. Conclusion: The results suggest that religiosity may play an important protective role in the experimentation and recent use of drugs among college students.

<description>Prevalência da violência sexual e fatores associados em acadêmicos da área da saúde da Universidade de Rio Verde: estudo transversal
Barreto, Tiago Guimarães Gomez
Sexual violence is a serious health problem, bringing cynical consequences such as physical trauma, sexually transmitted infections and unwanted pregnancies, in addition to numerous disorders related to mental health. In view of the seriousness of this problem, the present study aimed to study the prevalence of sexual violence in students in the health area and the associated factors. A standardized questionnaire was applied addressing various health issues, including sexual violence, in which 2295 students from the health area of the University of Rio Verde participated. A 7% prevalence of sexual violence was identified among university students. Sexual violence was associated with the female gender in 8.1% versus 4.5% of males, age, being more prevalent among the elderly, and excessive consumption of alcohol and other drugs. Regarding the frequency of alcohol consumption, the higher it was, the more it was associated with sexual victimization, being in 20% of harmful users. Psychological stress was also associated with sexual violence in 11.44% of those who declared themselves to be experiencing severe stress. It is concluded that sexual violence among university students in our environment was in line with findings in the literature, and it is fundamental, in the university environment, to approach this theme, focusing on preventive measures and adequate assistance to victims.

<description>Aptidão cardiorrespiratória de jovens ingressantes no serviço militar obrigatório na região do Vale dos Sinos/RS durante a pandemia de COVID-19
Freitas, Mateus Santos Gomes de
Abstract: High levels of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in young individuals are associated with a lower risk of cardiometabolic diseases in adulthood, positively impacting their quality of life, especially after the period of social isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Objective: To assess the CRF and quality of life (QoL) of recruits during the first year of mandatory military service amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a prospective cohort study with recruits who entered mandatory military service in the Vale dos Sinos region, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in the year 2022. The 12-minute Cooper test was applied to evaluate CRF, and the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire was used to assess QoL. Assessments were conducted at the time of entry into military service, after three months, and at the end of military service (eight months after entry). Data are presented as mean ± SD, and Friedman's ANOVA was used to analyze variables at different time points. Sphericity was tested using Mauchly's test, and a significance level of p≤0.05 was adopted for statistical significance (SPSS v21.0). Results: The initial sample consisted of 340 recruits, and the final analysis was performed with 258 recruits. The recruits had a mean age of 18±0.41 years, with 59.7% belonging to social classes B2 and C1, 67.8% were white, and the majority were single (99.6%). There was an improvement in CRF after three months (2819.96±255.94m; p&lt;0.001) and at the end (2921.51±239.26m; p&lt;0.001) of the military service period when compared to the time of entry (2569.13±286.55m) into military service. A significant increase in performance was observed in localized muscular endurance (RML) between the beginning and the end of military service. Particularly, there was a 124.97% increase in performance in four-limb support arm flexion, a 69.99% increase in abdominal flexion, and a 95.83% increase in pull-up performance. Regarding QoL, there was only a change in the physical domain after three months (69.04±12.22 points; p&lt;0.003) and at the end of the service period (71.06±12.84 points; p&lt;0.005) compared to the time of entry (71.66±13.62 points) for the recruits. The psychological, environmental, and social relationship domains showed no change during the follow-up period. Conclusion: The results of this study highlight the benefits of mandatory military service in improving physical fitness, which is crucial in the face of the growing sedentary lifestyle problem that has become a risk factor for non-communicable chronic diseases. However, it is important to emphasize that military units should consider other dimensions of quality of life, beyond physical perception, during military service to promote a healthy and balanced environment for their members.

<description>Fatores associados à mortalidade de pessoas vivendo com HIV/AIDS em um serviço de atenção especializada no Rio Grande do Sul: um estudo caso-controle
Rocha, Andrei Fernandes da
OBJECTIVE: To analyze factors associated with the mortality of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in a specialized care service in the city of Porto Alegre/RS, Brazil. METHODS: case-control study in which sociodemographic, care/behavioral, clinical and treatment variables were investigated. Cases were selected among PLWHA who were diagnosed, linked, and died between the years 2013 and 2018. Controls were PLWHA without the outcome. Fifty-three cases and 212 controls were included, totaling 265 sample units. Conditional Logistic Regression was performed to estimate the Gross and Adjusted Odds Ratios. A conceptual block model was considered for the multivariate analysis. RESULTS: In addition to the mean age of 48 years and life expectancy of 2.7 years after diagnosis, PLWHA diagnosed in hospital (OR= 4.07; 95%CI 1.34 - 12.35) with TB-HIV co-infection (OR= 8.77; 95%CI 1.87 - 41.01), with late diagnosis (OR=8.66; 95%CI 2.96 - 25.32), not retained in the health service (OR= 3.11; 95%CI 1.22 - 7.88) and without adherence to treatment (OR = 3.38; 95% CI 1.17 - 9.71) were more likely to die. CONCLUSION: In the period between diagnosis and death in the years 2013 to 2018, care, clinical and treatment events, such as late diagnosis and non-retention in the health service, had an impact on the chances of death of PLWHA.

<description>Políticas locais de produção da saúde: narrativa do movimento social trans e travesti de Porto alegre
Rates, Aline Schwalm Andrade
This master thesis is dedicated to investigating some strategies of Civil Society organized for and by the trans population of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul. Focusing on actions aimed at mitigating the limitations of access to health, the research resumed the histories of the emergence and performance of four organizations and collectives in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. This is collaborative qualitative research and the methodology adopted included individual interviews with the coordinators of the collectives, based on a previously developed semi-structured script, its audio recording and literal transcription. The discourse analysis of the French school was used as an approach for the analysis of the speeches. This work is divided into three parts: the first, re-presentation of the research project previously qualified and accepted by the Ethics Committee of the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos; the second is the report of the research carried out, with the presentation of the methodological path built and the sharing of some reflections about the research and the field; and the third consists of an article that aims to present the relationships between NGOs and the development of public health policies on HIV/AIDS in Porto Alegre, based on the articulation of a literature review and analysis of interviews to reconstruct the process history of local politics.

<description>Fatores associados a autopercepção de saúde em universitários do centro-oeste brasileiro
Fonsêca, Camila Vanzin Bonifácio
Objective: To investigate the factors associated with self-rated health in health students of a university in the Brazilian Midwest, in addition to estimating poor self-rated health in these students. Methodology: Cross-sectional study, university-based, of both genders, enrolled in health care courses at a university located in the Brazilian Midwest, State of Goiás, Brazil, in 2018. Self-rated health was assessed using a single question: “In general, how would you say your health is?”. Responses ranged from poor, fair, good, very good and excellent. For analysis purposes, the categories were dichotomously regrouped into fair/poor and excellent/very good/good. Associated factors included demographic, socioeconomic, academic, psychosocial, and behavioral aspects and use of health services. Bivariate analyzes were conducted using chi-square tests for linear trend and Pearson. Prevalence ratios and crude and adjusted mean ratios were estimated using Poisson regression with robust variance. Results: It was found that among the 2280 study participants, 342 (15%) had poor self-rated health. In the adjusted analysis, they remained associated with the outcome female gender (PR= 1.53; CI 95%: 1.20-1.95), low economic class (PR=;1.92 CI 97%: 1.47-2.50), students who failed (PR =;1.95 CI 95%:1.46-2.62), and who are in the last periods of the course (PR=1.371; CI 95%:1.04-1.81), low quality of life (PR =2.231; CI 95%:1.59-3.12), and mental health with very high psychological distress (PR=3.450; CI 95%:2.19-5.42). Conclusion: The present study demonstrated the prevalence of poor self-rated health in university students in the health area and an association with sociodemographic, academic and psychosocial factors. Due to these findings, interventions related to improving the perception of health in this group are recommended, which prioritize actions aimed at health promotion and prevention.

<description>Sofrimento psicológico e fatores associados em universitários da área da saúde de Rio Verde, GO, Brasil
Cruvinel, Érica Alves Pereira
Objective: To investigate the factors associated with psychological suffering in university students in the healthcare area of “Universidad de Rio Verde - UniRV, Goiás”. Method: A university-based and cross-sectional study included 2,237 university students that have completely answered the psychological distress screening instrument by Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) of both genders and aged ≥ 18 years. Were considered as dependent variable, having regard to the presence of psychological distress; and as independent variables, demographic, socio-economic, academic aspects, and of health-related behaviors that there have been associated with psychological distress. Gross and adjusted prevalence ratios and respective 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were estimated through the Poisson regression with robust variance in STATA version 15. Only variables with lower than 20% (p&lt;0.20) significance in bivariate analysis were taken to the adjusted analysis, which was conducted made from blocks. Were considered factors associated with psychological distress variables with significance level of at least 5%. Results: Whereas the information collected, we could notice that the overall prevalence of students with psychological distress high/very high level were 68% of prevalence (95%CI= 1.66-1.70). In the adjusted analysis, which variables affect the student’s psychological distress high/very high level, were female gender (RP=1.10; 95%CI= 1.07-1.13), education in medicine (RP=1.04; 95%CI=1.01-1.07), smoker or former smoker (RP=1.05; 95%CI=1.02-1.08), sedentary lifestyle (RP=1.04; 95%CI=1.01-1.07), poor/very poor quality of life (RP=1.14; 95%CI=1.11-1.18) and being or not physically active (RP=1.05; 95%CI=1.01-1.08). The fact of be aged 25 years or over (RP=0.93; 95%CI=0.90-0.97) demonstrate the potential for protective factor of psychological distress. Conclusion: The high prevalence of mental suffering found among students in the health area is discussed in the light of aspects related to mental health assessment, gender differences and health promotion strategies in the university context.

<title>Caracterização do uso atual de medicamentos por mulheres adultas e fatores associados: estudo de base populacional no sul do Brasil</title>
<link>http://repositorio.jesuita.org.br/handle/UNISINOS/12267</link>
<description>Caracterização do uso atual de medicamentos por mulheres adultas e fatores associados: estudo de base populacional no sul do Brasil
Mottin, Vitória Hana Müller
Medicines consist in high use technologies for prevention and treatment of a series of&#13;
health conditions. Medicine utilization studies are of huge importance for public health,&#13;
considering that the irrational use of medicines may cause harm to the users and&#13;
economic losses for the individuals and the health system. OBJECTIVE: To assess&#13;
current medicine use and its associated factors in adult women living in the urban area&#13;
of São Leopoldo, RS. METHODS: Cross-sectional population-based study with&#13;
women from 20 to 69 years old resident in the urban area of São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil.&#13;
A multi-stage sampling was conducted with random selection of 45 census tracts.&#13;
Current medicine use was analyzed including all reported medicines and excluding&#13;
specific contraceptive use. The independent variables consisted in demographic,&#13;
socioeconomic, behavioral, anthropometric, health and use of health services’&#13;
characteristics. Analyses were performed using Poisson Regression with robust&#13;
variance. RESULTS: A total of 1.128 women were interviewed. Current medicine use&#13;
was reported by 66.7% (IC95% 63.9-69.3). Excluding the specific use of&#13;
contraceptives, the prevalence of medicine use was 55.1% (IC95% 51.9-58.2). After&#13;
adjustment, a higher age, household income per capita, number of chronic morbidities,&#13;
number of medical appointments and worse self-rated health, as well as not having an&#13;
occupation and not consuming alcohol were associated to both outcomes. Having a&#13;
health insurance plan was associated only to current medicine use. Higher Body Mass&#13;
Index and lower education were only associated to current medicine use after the&#13;
exclusion of specific contraceptive use. CONCLUSION: This study revealed an&#13;
elevated prevalence of current medicine use and provided information about the&#13;
groups of higher exposure to medicine use, which should be considered priority for&#13;
medicine access strategies. Modifiable risk factors must be of special interest in adult&#13;
women, once they may contribute in the prevention of chronic conditions and early use&#13;
of multiple medicines.

<description>Estresse e fatores associados em trabalhadores da saúde do Rio Grande do Sul durante a pandemia de COVID -19
Guerra, Diane
The present dissertation aimed to evaluate the level of stress and associated factors among health workers in the State of Rio Grande do Sul during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research is part of a larger project, with a mixed design, entitled “Gender and mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: Psychosocial impacts and production of&#13;
vulnerabilities among health workers”, which was approved by the Research Ethics&#13;
Committee. (CEP) of the University of Vale dos Sinos (UNISINOS). It was an online crosssectional study whose data collection took place between July 2020 and May 2021.&#13;
Participants were 610 health workers from different categories working in hospitals and&#13;
Primary Health Care (PHC) services. A standardized and self-administered questionnaire was used to assess sociodemographic, health, work, and behavioral characteristics. EVENT scale measured the perception of vulnerability to stress related to job conditions. Stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). Ordinal regressions were performed to identify the association of these variables with stress levels, also stratifying between PHC and Hospital workers. In the adjusted model for the total sample, women, PHC workers, those who had less Personal Protetive Equipments (PPE) availability, greater perceived vulnerability to stress in relation to the climate and organizational functioning and to pressure at work had higher levels of stress. Those which increased the use of alcoholic beverages and non-prescription psychiatric medication during pandemic also showed higher stress. Among hospital workers, greater chances of high stress were found among women, people with white&#13;
skin color, who had less availability of PPE, used psychiatric medication and had a perception of greater vulnerability to stress in terms of organizational climate and functioning and pressure at work. Among PHC workers, greater chances of high stress kept associated with lower family income and the perception of greater vulnerability to stress at work in terms of infrastructure and routine. Being over 46 years old was a protective factor for stress among PHC workers. The study findings contribute to the inform actions to reduce occupational stressors in health services and improve the quality of life of health workers.

<description>Transtornos mentais comuns e fatores associados em mulheres trabalhadoras de turno do sul do Brasil
Lucca, Jessica Kraemer
The aim of this study was to identify the prevalence of common mental&#13;
disorders (CMD) and associated factors in female shift workers. This study belongs&#13;
to a larger project entitled: “Quality and sleep deprivation and abdominal obesity in&#13;
female shift workers in an industry in southern Brazil”. A cross-sectional&#13;
observational study was carried out with female shift workers in an industry in&#13;
southern Brazil. CMDs were assessed using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ20), using the cutoff point of 8 points or more. Other sociodemographic, occupational,&#13;
behavioral, morbidity and self-rated health variables were assessed using a&#13;
questionnaire. To verify the association of independent variables with the outcome,&#13;
the chi-square test was used. To estimate the Prevalence Ratios, crude and&#13;
adjusted, Poisson regression with robust variance was performed. The variables&#13;
were included in the analysis according to a conceptual model defined a priori that&#13;
considers the existence of a hierarchy between the variables in determining the&#13;
outcome. The prevalence of CMD was 47.3% (95% CI: 42.6-52.1). After adjusting for&#13;
confounding factors, it was observed that black/brown women, workers with poor&#13;
sleep quality and with fair/poor self-perception of health were more likely to have&#13;
CMD. There was no statistically significant association between CMD and the night&#13;
shift. In conclusion, the race/skin color relationship seems to overlap with the other&#13;
sociodemographic variables in the occurrence of CMD. In addition, the results point&#13;
to a strong relationship between poor sleep quality and CMD. It is suggested that&#13;
future studies compare the relationship of CMD between shift workers and regulartime workers.

<description>Impacto de uma intervenção clínica na qualidade de vida de portadores de zumbido
Lamonato, Léa Travi
Using a nonrandomized clinical trial, with two groups (intervention group and control group), this study evaluated the clinical intervention`s effect on quality of life in patients with tinnitus. The study sample was consisted with 122 patients with tinnitus (61 patients in the intervention group and 61 in the control group). People were recruited by two databases of speech therapy clinics from Veranópolis city and Caxias do Sul city, both situated in Rio Grande do Sul state. Patients with tinnitus from Veranópolis constituted the intervention group and participated in four monthly meetings, attended tinnitus lectures with many professionals. Patients with tinnitus from Caxias do Sul constituted the control group and participated only in two meetings and attended one tinnitus lecture. People of both groups responded in the first and the last meeting, the Questionário de Gravidade do Zumbido (QGZ), Brazilian version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI). The 122 patients with tinnitus who participated in this study, 50 (41%) were male and 72 (59%) females. By comparing the results of the QGZ, responded in the beginning and in the end of the survey, it found that the intervention group reduced significantly the discomfort due to tinnitus, people of this group improved their quality of life after the intervention in all scales of the questionnaire (Functional, Emotional and Catastrophic) and also in the overall score (p &lt;0.001) when compared with the control group. The proposed intervention provided shows, therefore, beneficial and effective in quality of life of patients with tinnitus.

<description>Conhecimento sobre hipertensão arterial sistêmica e sua farmacoterapia em portadores usuários da farmácia básica do município de São Francisco de Paula, RS
Motter, Fabiane Raquel
High blood pressure (HBP) is a multifactorial condition and important risk factor for&#13;
developing cardiovascular disease. However, about 30% of patients with HPB do not have&#13;
controlled blood pressure levels. Patient’s knowledge about hypertension and its&#13;
pharmacotherapy has been described as important factor to control this condition. The aim of this study was to evaluate knowledge about hypertension and its treatment in users of antihypertensives agents. A cross-sectional study was performed, with adults 20 years or older, that obtained antihypertensives agents at Public Pharmacy in São Francisco de&#13;
Paula/RS. The fieldwork was realized between tNovember/2010 and February/2011. A&#13;
standardized questionnaire was used to collected on knowledge of hypertension (risk factors, thresholds for blood pressure levels, complications and non-pharmacological treatment) and its pharmacological treatment (name, indication, dose, frequency / schedule of administration and duration of treatment). This knowledge about pharmacological treatment was measured through a score (0-5) and related factors. It was interviewed 678 users. The mean knowledge score was 3.27 (SD = 1.16). Lower age, higher schooling, white skin people, better selfreported health and lower prescription drugs were associated with a higher knowledge scores. Finally, knowledge is still limited about all aspects measured. This result can compromise the use correct and safe of drugs. It’s suggesting that hypertensive’s patient need for better counseling and care to high blood pressure control.

The burden of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in health statistics, in terms of mortality, morbidity and financial costs for the health system, is already the center of intense and long-standing study and discussion in the world scenario of scientific research. They ranked first in terms of years of life lost due to premature death in the group of non-communicable diseases, and of this group, ischemic heart diseases and cerebrovascular diseases are the two leading causes of years of life lost (Schramm et al. al., 2004). Within ischemic heart diseases, the term Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is used to describe cardiac events of sudden myocardial ischemia, such as unstable angina and myocardial infarction, which are characterized by high lethality and significant morbidity (Pitsavos et al., 2008; Overbaugh, 2009). The group of cerebrovascular diseases includes transient ischemic attack and stroke, characterized by focal neurological disorders of vascular etiology (Carandang et al., 2006).

Self-perception of health is one of the indicators recommended by the World Health Organization to assess the health of populations (Theme Filha, Szwarcwald and Souza Junior, 2008), it measures the individual's health status in a global way and has acquired importance for research. epidemiological data (Alves and Rodrigues, 2005). A concept for health must be linked to the way in which society is organized, without disregarding individual particularities. It is therefore necessary to try to directly understand health, as it is perceived and felt by people and what are the determinants (Brodersen, 1997). Increasingly used in epidemiological research, self-perception of health is strongly associated with the actual or objective health status (Dachs, 2002; Santos et al., 2007).

Metabolic (MS) is a complex disorder by a complex disorder by a grouping of cardiovascular risk factors, abdominal accumulation syndrome, resistance in HDL cholesterol levels and/or hyperglycemia (blood cholesterol levels) and arterial hypertension BRAZILIAN DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF METABOLIC SYNDROME, 2005). Studies in different populations of the world occurred of MS, characterized by diagnostic criteria and the observed population, such as gender, racial group and people from 8% to 24% to 24% to 46% in women (CAMERON, SHAW and ZIMMET, 2006). However, due to the uncertain underlying pathophysiological processes that lead to its development, and confusion between conceptual definitions, MS remains a source of controversy between research and clinics (DUVNJAK and DUVNJAK, 2009; REAVEN, 2007).
