Impacto do VMI no efeito chicote em uma cadeia de suprimentos: um estudo de caso na indústria de borrachas

Abstract

This paper presents a case study that addresses the potential impacts that the VMI - Vendor Management Inventory has on the bullwhip effect supply chain of a manufacturer of treads and their customers. The study was conducted in a rubber company located in the city of Portão - RS and its major customers. From the collection and analysis of data, it attempted to verify the form of demand management and inventory and how this form of management influences in the appearance of whiplash. By presenting the VMI system and its benefits, the gains that this tool can bring the supply chain and how to minimize the damage caused by whiplash were described. However, despite the benefits of the implementation of VMI are very evident, there is still a lack of confidence by customers to spend managing their inventory treads for the supplier. The forms and VMI implementation steps have not been object of interest in this study and may be, however, foundation for future researches.
